The perfect space for tweens and teens who love to write and tell stories, but need a place to share the pitfalls and triumphs of doing so! I'm a full time author with sixteen books for young people available in over twenty languages worldwide. I've spoke in countless schools, taught many camps, seminars, clubs, and classes, and talked with hundreds (thousands?) of young authors across the world. In doing so, I've discovered that there's one particularly pervasive, troublesome lie about writing: That's it's something you go at alone, sitting at a desk, agonizing over words, suffering in solitude. This is absolutely not the case for myself or any other professional author I know! Writing, like any art form, is meant to be shared, discussed, and enjoyed, even when the process itself gets difficult. This class serves to give students a place to get feedback, bounce ideas around, get writing tips from one another and myself, and generally shed the myth of a writing life being a lonely life. Students can drop in to this class weekly or occasionally-- whenever they need a little guidance, a place to vent, or just a place to chat with people who will totally understand the frustration of not having a clue where your character should go next. Students are encouraged to come to class with questions!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will meet like-minded peers who love writing, creativity, and books.
Students will be able to ask questions of a professional author on everything from the writing process to the publishing industry.

Orientación para padres
While conversations will always be age-appropriate, please note that some students may want advice or guidance on stories dealing with sensitive issues.
Below are my general classroom rules and policies. These will also be explained to students when we begin class!
-For everyone's safety, and to ensure an engaging and social experience, students are required to have working microphones and video for the entirety of this class, positioned such that we can both hear and see them.
-Students are asked not to use filters or virtual backgrounds-- though if there is an important reason to use a virtual background, please just let me know ahead of time that your student will be using one (no questions asked!).
-Students will be asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, pronoun, and a favorite book.
-The Zoom text chat is set to "host only", meaning students can chat with me, but not to one another or the entire classroom.
