I give feedback to first point out what learners did well in their writing, and then point out places where they can grow and "level up" their writing. The peer review will do the same exact thing.Experiencia de clase

This is the flex version of my popular ongoing Creative Writing Club. This flex class was created for afterschool students who would like to participate in this awesome class but cannot now with my new during-school teaching hours, as well as others who may have saved the ongoing version but have not seen a time (or spot) available that works for your schedule. Ultimately, all are welcome! CLASS DESCRIPTION In this flex class, upper elementary and middle school students (4th-7th grade) will have the opportunity to learn creative writing tips through a weekly video and share their original work (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, etc) with their peers and teacher to receive valuable feedback. This writing club will function in a workshop model, where we praise and kindly critique the work of peers. It is also a laid-back environment for students who want to have dedicated time to write each week and to give and receive feedback to/from their peers, while also getting a chance to learn creative writing tips each week (see bottom of class experience). On Mondays, I will post my tip time video and ask students to share their writing goal for the week on that post. I will put up an additional post for the week for students to submit their work for peer review. Students should allot themselves at least 30 minutes to write whatever they've been dreaming up each week. This can be fictional stories; creative nonfiction works such as personal essays, memoirs, etc; poems; or dynamic screenplays. Students can choose to write and add more to the same piece each week or write something completely new each time. It's totally up to them. Students must submit their original work as a comment every Thursday by 11:59pm their time for peer review. They will then, in turn, complete their peer review by Sunday at 11:59pm their time. I will send them my personal teacher feedback by the following Wednesday at 11:59pm EST. Ultimately, this is a laid-back, yet extremely helpful, creative writing club for those serious about creative writing. All writers, whether novice or seasoned, are welcome! Students should at least have basic composition skills, such as knowing how to write a paragraph, as well as a beginning, middle, and end. NOTE: This class can be retaken as many times as you would like, just as you may rewatch your favorite tv series. After taking this course, you can move on to Part 3, and then back to this class, Part 1. The tips will be repeated, but just like in my ongoing class, they will provide timely reminders of those creative writing concepts. The true hallmark of this class is peer review and teacher feedback. The tip is just a supplement. My hope is that students will create little writing cohorts that cycle through the classes together, giving them the opportunity to bond and grow as writers. WEEKLY OUTLINE FOR TIP TIME: Week 1 - Narration Week 2 - Rhythm Week 3 - Figurative Language Week 4 - Theme Week 5 - Writer's Block Week 6 - Beginnings
