Students will learn how to take interesting and creative photographs of toys in this fun and interactive course with a professional photographer, Erika Hatfield. Bring your wildest ideas to the class and she can help you find everyday objects from around the house to make creative toy photographs. The class will begin with an introduction to toy photography and a brief image review. Students will learn 3 key components to taking great photographs of toys - angle, background & composition. We will discuss strategies to add creative elements to images such as making it rain or making it look like a toy is flying. They will learn ways to make the toys look larger or more lifelike. Students will photograph their own toys throughout the class as they apply each new photography skill. Students will have the opportunity to share their photos with the class if they would like but younger learners may need an adult to help them share, especially at the beginning of class. Most students share by holding up their camera, phone, or tablet screen by the webcam.

Next Level Photo Education is a family business providing interactive photography classes for children and teenagers here on Outschool. All classes are now taught by Erika Hatfield only. My husband, Jake, edits class videos & our 3 teenage daughters often help test new classes & share ideas to make our classes even better.

My goal for all learners is for them to find their own unique paths with photography. Children and teenagers are so creative and I love showing them how to use photography to express themselves. My classes are all focused on hands-on learning and students will spend a lot of time both taking and sharing their photos in both live and flexible schedule classes.
I look forward to helping you or your learner take better photos or learn how to use the manual settings on cameras. I check in on Outschool most weekdays to respond to learner photos and questions from both parents and learners. Please reach out anytime!

Students can use any device that takes photos unless otherwise noted in the more advanced courses (Learn How to Use Your DSLR or Mirrorless Camera: Manual Settings & The Business of Photography).
Most of our current class offerings are for beginner photographers and are focused on the fundamentals of photography, including lighting and composition, or special interests, such as food, pets, or cars.

📆 SCHEDULING:
Self-Paced Courses ---> year-round start anytime!
Live one-time classes ---> Offered one day each month
Multi-week & ongoing Courses ---> Live Multi-week courses available in September and January.
📈 LOW ENROLLMENT:
One-time live classes ---> minimum of 1 learner (These are never cancelled but you can always request a transfer to a section with more learners)
Multi-week & ongoing Courses ---> Sections will be delayed until the minimum enrollment is met.
🕐 TRANSFERS:
You can request a transfer to another section anytime at least 24 hours before your class but we are unable to provide refunds for missed classes in most situations.
