"It is better to solve one problem five different ways, than to solve five problems one way." - George Polya In this class, students will continue to apply the great mathematician, George Polya's, step-by-step problem-solving process in the form of an engaging story, roleplaying, and problem-solving games. The first 5 minutes of class will be used for icebreakers so that the students may become familiar and friendly with each other. After that, we will dive into the heart of the session: the students will be divided into two teams where they will then be invited on a series of problem-solving quests. Each quest highlights a different step of Polya's problem-solving method. The first team to work together to complete all four of the quests wins. Level 2 Quest: Carry out the plan Using some of the methods identified in the previous course, the students will be given the ultimate challenge: escape from the enchanted forest in which they have become trapped. In order to do so, they must implement multiple methods identified in the previous course to obtain the information needed, make a plan, and carry out their escape. No prior knowledge or experience needed, though it is recommended for students to have taken the first course: Creative Problem-Solving: A Series of Quests to Learn Better Problem Solving https://outschool.com/classes/708abb84-577f-40cb-a27a-293c227c4aa6. If they haven't taken it, a handout from the first course will be sent to them for them to review.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn Polya's problem-solving method, a time-tested and well-renowned method originally intended for mathematics, but which is applicable to all problems in general.
