Experiencia de clase

This class is designed to be a social gathering while enhancing student knowledge of basic design and encouraging students to share ideas and opinions. My game will be visible, and I regularly solicit student feedback and ideas on how things should be designed and placed. Students are encouraged to have their own game running (Sims 4 or an earlier version), and share their screen with their peers for feedback. Students will learn to provide and accept feedback and constructive criticism, as well as how to critically view their own and others' work.
Week 1: We will discuss the basics of building in Sims, including creating rooms, roofs, and basements. We will add doors, windows, floors, and wall coverings. Students will learn about the eyedropper tool, and how to manipulate the keyboard through the controls on screen, the mouse, or the keyboard. We will also discuss using the map to visit other locations and editing other properties.
Week 2: Students will begin placing furniture in their house, and will share their inspiration and reasoning for different selections and colors. There is no wrong answer when it comes to designing a room! Students just need to have a reason for why they chose the colors, styles, and placements they did! We will discuss giving and receiving feedback in this lesson, and this will be a part of upcoming lessons. (Students will learn a "money" cheat for this, so they don't have to worry about having enough money for what they want to include.)
Week 3: Students will do some landscaping this week! We will create pools and fountains, place patios, fences, outdoor seating and cooking, and different plants. Again, there is no wrong answer for students' choices, but they are expected to provide reasoning and support for their choice.
Week 4: Students will design a small food-based business (such as a restaurant, cafeteria, or home-based baking business). I will be using the expansion pack "Dining Out" (available for Sims 4), but everything students need can be found in the base game pack. Students will share their games either via screen share or through a screenshot, and we will discuss what we like about their business, and give feedback on what they could improve. Students will share, "If I could visit this restaurant (or other business), I would . . . .".
Week 5: Students will design either a home gym or a public gym. There is an expansion pack of gym equipment that students are welcome to use, but it is not needed! The gym needs to be at least 2 stories, and be a separate building from any other buildings, such as their house. It will have male and female locker rooms, and a pool.
Week 6: This will be a "free-build"! Students can build anything they want, but it needs to be a new project (not a previously-started building). We will share our buildings via screen share or screenshot, and students will give and receive constructive criticism of their buildings.
Weeks 7 and 8: These classes will be a larger project (so continued over 2 weeks). I will start by showing Sims one of my favourite things to create in Sims--a house with a moat/underwater basement! Then students will create an apartment building that is 4 stories tall, with at least 8 fully furnished apartments (at least 1 bed/1bath in each). They will consider what amenities they might look for in an apartment building, such as pool, gym, storage, parking, landscaping, etc.
Week 9: Students will be building a museum in this class. I will show them how to access the map for a freebuild and select what type of lot they want. They will then have to meet the in-game requirements for a museum.
Week 10: This class is the movie theater class--students will build a lobby, mini restaurant/snack bar, and a single large theater. I will be using the Home Theater Pack, but this is not a requirement--everything they need can be found in the base pack!
Week 11-12: Based on student requests, we will spend 2 weeks building and furnishing a luxurious mansion. Students will be challenged to build a gazebo as part of the landscaping.
Week 13: This week students will be building a tree-house. We will learn how to build bridges to connect different parts of our treehouse.
Week 14: Free build/aquarium--We will be building aquariums, but students may build whatever they want during this class.
Week 15: Tiny Build--I will be using the "Tiny House" Sims expansion pack, but students don't need this pack to participate. They are challenged to build a house that is 100 squares or less, or for a greater challenge, 64 squares, or the ultimate challenge--32 squares or less! Students need to include all the elements of a house (1 bedroom/bathroom, kitchen, living room space, etc.) I will show students how to build a loft to further their limited space.
Week 16: Library--students will build a public library, including bookshelves, check-out desk, kids play area, and study areas!
Week 17-18: School: Students will build a public school (elementary, middle, or high school). Students will add offices, classrooms, gym, cafeteria, library, computer lab, and art room. We will also add an outdoor play area. Students will need a large lot for this one (50x50).
Week 19: Student challenge: Students will suggest a type of public building for the class to build.
Week 20: Student challenge: Students will suggest a type of public building for the class to build.

Hello all! I'm so excited to get to know you and see you in the classroom! I have 7 years of teaching experience and love to teach all ages and subjects. I have my M.Ed in teaching, and most of my teaching experience is in upper elementary and ESL education. Classes I offer include French, writing, life skills, Harry Potter, elementary science and math. If there is a class you're interested in that isn't scheduled, please shoot me a message so we can work something out!
Everything I do in the classroom stems from the belief that every child can learn. I also believe that my job as a teacher is first to keep my students safe (physically, emotionally, etc.), then to help them learn, then to help them have fun. I try to make my classes as fun as possible to keep students engaged because I really believe learning can be enjoyable!
