In a galaxy far, far away... In this class I will teach students: - How to create and customize their own amazing lightsaber - How to properly control their paintbrushes for blends in motion - The magical effect of two toning a brush with paint - The power of strong contrasts - How to create the illusion of illumination through highlights and shadows - How to create magic dust quickly - Practical color placement - Paintbrush etiquette - Using Washi tape in artwork for straight lines Parents are encouraged to help students with the placement of the washi tape. We are aiming for a 1 inch width of the lighstaber and a height of 16 inches, but this depends on the size of your canvas (we want a longer canvas). 1 inch x 16 inches is the recommended size for the 10x20 canvas on the supply list. Leave about an inch of space from the top and bottom of the canvas when putting the tape down. There are times I purposely create a mistake in order to show students how to recover from any painting mistakes that may occur during their artistic journey! This exciting painting allows students to explore personal creativity-- no two lightsabers will be the same! I encourage students to make personal color choices to create an art piece unique to themselves.

My name is Tabitha, but most kids refer to me as Miss T.
I am looking forward to teaching young people how painting is unique to themselves as individuals, and that life lessons can stem from learning any kind of creative outlet. I personally believe that anyone can create artwork-- it just needs to be cultivated!
I was a studio art teacher for nearly 3 years having taught painting lessons to large groups of children as young as 3 years old to young adults 19+. I understand how to navigate through the discouragement that youths often feel when their art piece does not resemble someone else's that they deem "better," and teach them to see beyond the artwork and look at their own special skills and techniques.
In college I learned that history and science have big part to play in the art world therefore, I enjoy sprinkling "golden nuggets" of grammar and word origins into my art lessons.
In my spare time I think, read classic literature & children's fantasy books, draw & paint, go for walks, and plot novels.
