Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
In this class, learners will make a counting rope for the number 5. A counting rope is a wonderful visual model for demonstrating addition, subtraction, counting, and more! It can be used to increase a child's ability to subitize or "instantly see the quantity" without counting. Counting ropes are a great mathematical tool for young learners because they are visual and tactile.

In the first part of this class, learners will learn how to make a counting rope using elastic bracelet cord (or any thin cord) and pony beads. They will make a counting rope for the number 5. They will use their fine motor skills to thread the beads and practice counting to ensure they have the correct number of beads for the counting rope.

Then, in the second part of the class, learners will learn how to use their counting ropes through different numeracy activities. They will be shown how to use it to represent numbers, to decompose numbers, and to add and subtract numbers.

Orientación para padres
Little hands may need parental guidance to thread the beads and tie the knots on the counting rope. They will definitely need an adult to cut the cord to the correct length.
Lista de útiles escolares
- At least 2 feet of elastic bracelet cord, or any time of thin cord with a little bit of slippery-ness. (This will make the counting rope. More is needed to make others)
- 5 pony beads- I like to use 5 of the same color
- A can to act as an anchor

I am a certified elementary school teacher and a certified library media specialist. I currently am an elementary school librarians in a preK-grade 2 school but I previously taught first grade for 6 years. I saw how important a strong foundation of number sense is for students. I used counting ropes, and many other tools, to help build my students' number sense.
