Descifrando códigos y descifrando cifras

The teacher will demonstrate how codes and ciphers are designed.  The teacher will then show the students how to crack beginner-level codes. The teacher will check that students understand how the codes work, so they can go on to create their own for family and friends to break!

Students will start by observing the teacher breaking the Atbash Cipher. The teacher explains the code step by step and then let students practice on their own. The teacher will repeat this process of demonstration, step by step instruction, and students showing what they learned for the Atbash Cipher.

The teacher will then show then repeat the same process with the Pigpen Cipher.  The teacher will demonstrate step by step and then have students show themselves breaking the code to ensure comprehension and ability to replicate the code.

*Please note a recording of this session will post in the classroom after class is completed. Breaking codes and ciphers takes practice. We will run through each cipher several times but the student will want to watch the video again to help practice the process.
