Counting to 100 is an essential math skill for young learners. However, learning to count to 100 can be a monotonous and overwhelming process. I know that young learners thrive in a more interactive environment, so I teach students to count using the, "I do, We do, You do" model, which will make for a more engaging and meaningful counting activity. To make this a more hands-on experience, I would encourage each student to bring 100 small things that they can use to count along with me. Because teaching to the whole child is my primary teaching philosophy, I believe it is important that each student experience the tangible process of counting 100 items. Suggested items to have your student bring to class are: stickers, buttons, small Lego type bricks, etc. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the items are small and able to lay on a flat surface. I would like to reiterate that it is not required that your child have items to count in class, however being able to physically touch the items as we count, may enhance the class experience. In addition to touching items as we count, I will teach the students three easy chants that highlight the repetitive nature of counting. Once students are confident with the natural sequence of numbers, independently counting to 100 becomes a very attainable goal. After watching me count a group of numbers, practicing together, then counting with me as a class, the students will be encouraged to count altogether, as I listen and offer help and encouragement as needed.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
As an early childhood educator I understand the importance of early math skills, like counting. As a preschool teacher I successfully taught numerous children to not only count items in a set, but also identify that each tangible item represents a number when counting. Now, as a kindergarten teacher, I apply that same philosophy for teaching my students to count to 100, which is one of our required math skills.
