There is no official homework for this class, but it is highly suggested that each student display and practice utilizing their completed Anger Thermometer once completed. Twenty-four hours prior to the start of class, I will upload a printable Anger Thermometer to the classroom page. It is very important that each student prints this thermometer out, and brings it to the class.Experiencia de clase
In this interactive one-time course, students will explore the emotion of anger. We will first discuss the definition of anger and its purpose in our lives. Next, we will learn about where anger "lives" in our bodies by discussing techniques to recognize where we first feel our anger physically. Students will then use a teacher-supplied print out to create their very own "Anger Thermometer." The purpose of this thermometer is to label and recognize the physical early warning signs of anger, as well as to brainstorm calming techniques to counteract these physical signals. While creating our Anger Thermometers, students will first color their thermometer. With the teacher's help, they will then label one side of the thermometer with common physical signs of anger. These signs will be grouped by intensity (e.g., slightly angry, moderately angry, furious). Next, students will brainstorm various general calming techniques. I will then discuss any calming techniques not mentioned (e.g., deep breathing, guided relaxation), and students will have the opportunity to label the opposing side of the thermometer with these strategies. Please note that students may require some adult/parental help after the class in order to complete any unlabeled parts of the thermometer. If time allows, students will be led in a guided relaxation exercise called "Pausing to Understand Anger." Guided relaxation is an excellent technique to calm anger and promote tranquility. My goal in this class is for each student to have a complete Anger Thermometer that they can display and utilize during bouts of anger. Having coping techniques already written down makes it easier to use these strategies when in the heat of the moment. My teaching style is highly interactive! I teach through a combination of live lectures and discussion. I frequently ask questions and allow students to also ask questions, while also being mindful of those who are hesitant to participate. I want my students to feel valued and engaged! I love to encourage participation, and I think that students can learn so much from their peers. I believe that collaborative learning is such a great tool! Additionally, I have learned a great deal from my students, and highly value their input and ideas. I also frequently provide time for discussion. *Please note that this class is not intended to provide therapy, and sensitive topics will be avoided.*

Sensitive topics will be avoided. If a student brings up a potentially sensitive/mature topic, the teacher will redirect them to more age-appropriate topics. We will not be discussing personal feelings or experiences, but instead will keep discussion to general definitions and techniques.
*Please note that this class is not intended to serve as therapy.
