In this class, we will learn how to make a paper space scene you can hang in your own house. These are lots of fun to make and the curly paper makes it 3D!

Class structure:

In this class, we will start by coloring our pieces and cutting them out. Then, students can choose whether they want to put a photo of themselves in the window of the rocket or if they want to use stickers or draw a picture there! Once that's done, we'll learn how to cut and curl our construction paper and attach it to our rockets to look like 3D flames coming out of the thrusters! Finally, we'll start putting all our pieces together and finish adding any decorations we like. Students are welcome to use glitter, stickers, or anything else they can think of to really make this project their own.

If there is time left near the end of class, anyone who wants to can show off their work to everyone. (If they want to show off their collage, but don't want to be on the big screen, they can step to the side and hold their work in front of the camera.)

My Teaching Style:

Demonstration and communication are my favorite tools to use in class. This is a very hands-on project, and I feel this class would work well for homeschoolers and unschoolers, as well as any student who just learns better kinetically.

I generally try to keep students unmuted, except in the case of noisy backgrounds, and all students are welcome to ask questions at any time. I do ask that they use the "raise hand" button, rather than calling out, but if there are only one or two students in the class, they're welcome to speak up as they wish.

I also have a second camera, which will be pointed at my work surface, to give students a clear view of what I'm doing. But if they'd like to see it from another angle, by all means, just ask!

Class expectations:

As is Outschool policy, I do not allow bullying or teasing. Everyone is welcome in my classroom and learning is always something to be encouraged.
I do not ask students to remain on camera for more than the initial class check-in required by Outschool policy, but being able to see will help me help them with the trickier parts of this project.
If your learner has any unique needs to be accomodated, please let me know! I'm happy to help and want this class to be as fun and imaginative as possible for every student.

Required Experience:

Students should be able to use scissors and glue or tape safely or have an adult nearby to assist them. (Please remember that Outschool policy does not permit parents to be on camera during class.)
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their fine motor skills by coloring or painting their printed rocketship scene, and by cutting, curling, and gluing construction paper to their picture. They will improve their planning skills as they decide how they want to arrange the pieces of their collage on their page. And, they will also have a chance to improve their social skills by interacting with other students as they create a cute decoration together.

I love making these adorable posters and find paper-curling to be an incredibly simple way of making a flat piece of art more interesting and fun.
