Club de inglés conversacional: para estudiantes de inglés como segundo idioma de nivel intermedio de 9 a 12 años

As a student who learned English as her second language, I understand the challenges that come up when trying to speak English:
-words like "hit" & "heat" sound so similar
-verb tense is tricky
-many words have multiple meanings
However, simply practicing our conversation is a very good way to improve our ability to speak English.

This on-going class is designed to engage intermediate English Language Learners (ELL) in conversation by using language building activities. The different activities will ask students to use their listening and English language skills to talk and socialize with peers in a relaxed small group setting.

I will support my English Language Learners (ELL) by:
*using sentence stems
*using wait time
*using pictures & illustrations 
*checking for understanding
*monitoring my articulation & speech rate
*using shorter, less complex sentences

Although I will be supporting all students, learners should be at the INTERMEDIATE LEVEL in speaking English. 
Meaning, they should be able to: 
- share their thoughts & ask questions.
-create simple sentences 
-use basic vocabulary in English 
-communicate in casual conversation throughout the four week session. 

***Although supplies are not required, I do suggest students keep a paper & pencil handy to help them form their ideas.📝 

January 7 - We will begin with introductions and ice breakers. I will explain the various activities such as playing “Two Truths & A Lie” and provide visual prompts to help students with comprehension.  

January 14 - We will use language building activities and practice using past tense by talking about what we did last year and what we remember about our very first day of school. 

January 21 - We will use language building activities and will practice future tense by talking about what we plan to do next year and what students what to be when they grow up.

January 28 - We will use language building activities, will look at different puns, talk about their meaning, what makes puns funny and what the multiple meaning words are.

This club will provide your child with a relaxed setting with no set curriculum in order to encourage them to speak freely. 
Activities Include:
“Would You Rather” where students are given a choice between two things.
“Category Game” where we see who can come up with the most words for a given category. 
“Odd One Out” where students use their listening skills to see which word has a different vowel sound. 
“Scavenger Hunt” where I provide a list of items to look for within 90 seconds and students discuss their items. 
“Tutti Frutti” A vocabulary building activity where students come up with different categories for a given letter. 

This is just a small sample of different activities to engage your learner. Aside from set activities, I can also provide students with “Free Talk” where they can discuss age-appropriate topics such as sports, pets, movies, hobbies, current events, etc. 
Each week learners will talk about the various activities and participate by completing the different tasks. As this is an on-going class, at the end of the 4 sessions, I can add more meeting times so we can continue to use the various activities to develop and improve our English conversation.
