Grado de EE. UU. 1 - 4
Nivel Beginner
During these 8 days, students will learn the basics of computer science using various coding platforms such as Scratch/Scratch Jr., Code.org, Tynker and students in 3rd-5th grade will have the option to use Makecode.

Our philosophies at TechWise Academy:
1) Embrace Mistakes - Coding provides immediate feedback to the learner to correct any mistakes along the way. Mistakes are part of the process of learning.
2) Enjoy Learning - We use fun characters and games to make the learning fun for your student. We know that students learn better when they enjoy the process.
3) Explore Computer Science - We want to expose the problem solving techniques used in computer science to every child. We know every student will not be programmers one day; however, we want to give tools that can be used across any field of study or career.

Devices: All students are encouraged to have two separate devices. One device for the zoom classroom and the other for the coding platform. For K-2 students, a tablet or phone with Scratch Jr. installed is preferred to a computer. A tablet or phone allows them to hold their screen up so the instructor can see their code.

Websites and Apps: K-2 students will be using Scratch Jr. A free app that can be installed on tablets, phones, or computers. While older students will use Scratch. All students will use Code.org and Tynker but the level of difficulty will depend on the student. Students in grades 3-5 will have the additional option to use Makecode.

-Students will work through some of the coding puzzles with the instructor

Week 2: Kodabkle or Code Monkey (K-5)
-If needed, students will continue working through the puzzles from week 1 or they will work through a different set of puzzles with a different coding concept (Kodable)

Week 3: Scratch (K-5)
-Students will sign in with their provided login credentials and create a Valentine's Day catching Game.

Week 4: Scratch (K-5)
-Students will continue to work on the Valentine's day game from week 3.

Week 5: Scratch (3-5)
-Students will follow along with the instructor to make a "choose your own adventure" style animation.

Week 6: Scratch (3-5)

Week 7: Scratch (3-5)
-Students will follow along with the instructor to make a "don't press the red button" story

Week 8: Scratch (3-5)

Orientación para padres
We will be using third-party tools called Code Monkey, Kodable, and Scratch in this course. We will also watch various videos and read various books. As a backup plan (in case one of the sites do not work), we will use a third party site called Plethora and do Pixel Jr. https://www.codemonkey.com/hour-of-code/coding-adventure/ https://www.kodable.com/hour-of-code/beach-cleanup https://scratch.mit.edu/ https://www.iamplethora.com/hour-of-code/ (Plethora- Pixel Jr. Hour of Code) Code Monkey and Kodable will allow your learner to complete coding puzzles in order to understand the basics of coding. Plethora will allow your learner to complete coding puzzles and learn the coding foundations. Scratch will be used to create various animations and games. This platform is more open ended than Code Monkey and Kodable.

Accounts (tied to a teacher account) will be made for Scratch. Information on how to login will be shared before using the site. If a student already has a Scratch account, please use the account that will be provided as all accounts made will be tied to a teacher account. It is recommended for students to have two separate devices- one for the coding platform and one for the Outschool classroom.
