The Complete First Quarter plus Coding: 4th and 5th Grade course includes nine weeks of instruction and a final week of review and assessment. Students will receive rubric-based grades for each assignment as well as an average grade for the course. We will cover Math, English Language Arts, Life Science, US History, Art, P.E., Project-Based Learning, and Coding. This class follows the Common Core standards and 21st-century skills. We will be using CodeSpark, Nearpod, Open eBooks, and Boddle. I will be providing accounts for all of these programs. Families will need to provide assorted art supplies (student's choice) and Legos. This course is suitable for all skill levels. Throughout the course, I will provide updates on student grades and progress as well as recommendations for acceleration or remediation. One-on-one and small-group tutoring will be offered as needed. Note: We will be using resources from Lessons of Our Land (https://lessonsofourland.org/) to address the effect of colonization and Westward Expansion on the Native America people. From their about page: "Lessons of Our Land teaches the Native American story of this land from historical to modern times. The nonprofit Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) developed the curriculum to provide both Native and non-Native students with broader insight and understanding of land, cultures, inherent rights and tribal sovereignty." As listed in the schedule below, we will focus on two subjects a day. We will have a warm-up activity, lesson, and work period for each subject. Students will have access to materials and class recordings if they need to miss class. This course is collaborative, so attendance is essential. If necessary, the schedule will be adjusted to meet the needs of students.
