Applying for college is complicated, but the Common App attempts to simplify this. Students do most things once, and then send the information to each college that accepts it (many do.) This informational class will cover what the common app is, how to use it, and the strategy of choosing the essay prompt that will help you (or your learners) present themselves in the best way. If you are not familiar with the Common App or just starting the college application process, this class is useful. If you are just working on the application essay, then the College Application Essay class is more useful instead.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will gain knowledge of what the Common App is and how to begin using it to apply for college. The focus is on the strategy of the essay prompts, not the details of creating an account.

Most of the information will revolve around using the Common App to apply for college. However, learners do NOT actually need to go to the Common App website before or during the class to benefit from it. I'll show people the website and talk about using it. It's linked here for your convenience.

For many years, I've taught writing and communication skills at community college, which includes about a 100 high school students a year. Much of this has been essay writing, and a lot of our students transfer to four year universities. My Master's degree is in English with a minor in psychology.
