This class will be in an online lecture format with a slideshow presentation. It is an ideal lecture for those who are interested in the Colonial Era or the history of diseases. In the class, we will look at contemporary accounts and modern historical information in regards to diseases and medicine during the American Colonial time period (1607 – the American Revolution). Plus, reviewing two events beyond that time, the death of President George Washington and the Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia, PA in 1793. During this class, we will be discussing the early settlements of Jamestown and Plymouth and the health-related events that happened there. We will also be discussing small pox, malaria, typhoid, pneumonia, diphtheria, and tuberculosis, among others. While the class will consist mostly of lecture points, I do highly encourage both discussion and questions in my classes.
