Experiencia de clase

In this ongoing class, students will learn how to write code using the website code.org. This is a fun and easy way to learn how to use blockly style coding. This website is designed for all ages and starts the students off with a very simple and easy-to-read style of coding.

Here is the breakdown of the weeks:
Week 1: Week of April 3: Flappy Code Week. We will concentrate on the drag-and-drop method of coding. This is the easiest way to start in the coding world.
Week 2: Week of April 10: Dance Party Week. This week will spark the creative aspect of coding. In this class, students will create an "event" using some of today's popular music.
Week 3: Week of April 17: Star Wars Week. Coding this week will help students understand how to code droids while creating their own video game.
Week 4: Week of April 24: Minecraft Designer Week. This class is available for students that want to sharpen their creativity and problem-solving skills through Minecraft.
Week 5: Week of May 1: Play Lab. Create a game of make a story in this play lab!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi, everyone! Welcome to Outschool.

My name is Kim Spicer and I am a certified elementary school teacher, former actor, and a mom to a teenager. I have a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. Before teaching, I was an actor in New York. I gained a Studio Theatre Acting Certificate from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, NY. I have been teaching for over 11 years, 5 of those years of which were STEM. During this time, I created my own curriculum for students based on the standards from the classroom. This year I am teaching the gifted and talented students. This has been such a great experience for me, because I get to combine my multi-faceted backgrounds such as STEM, acting, etc.

I have created a teaching style that is fun and energetic, while also educational. By molding my love for teaching and acting together, I keep the kids fully engaged the entire time! We always have so much fun! Students leave my classroom with a smile on their faces and more knowledge about science, engineering, coding, a sense of self, and more confidence.

I look forward to meeting you all and having some fun while learning!
