Jumpstart your way into the world of game development! Making games is a fantastic creative outlet and joining in on the fun of making them has never been easier! Using Processing's JavaScript development environment, learn what it takes to make your own clicker game, akin to Cookie Clicker! Be introduced to JavaScript and the tools to allow developers to create their own games which can be played in-browser. Clicker games are a simple concept but provide budding game developers with a taste of key concepts for creating and managing an in-game economy. Alongside the instructor, students will take part in 5 sessions, each covering a topic which brings them closer to having their very own game! By the end of the camp, students will complete these sessions: >>> Session 1: Intro to JavaScript and Game Development Dive into JavaScript and get familiar with the Processing environment. Students will then start their game development by learning how to create the foundation of creating a clicker game economy. >>> Session 2: What's In Store? What makes clicker games appealing is the different ways to upgrade and expand your clicking empire. Discover how to create a store for players to purchase upgrades using their hard earned clicks! >>> Session 3: Looking For An Upgrade Now they we can head to the store, it's time to stock it full of goodies! Learn how to populate the store full of awesome upgrades to maximize your clicking effectiveness! >>> Session 4: Big Bonuses Life is full of surprises, and your game can be too! Explore how you can add random interactables into your game which provide the player with a range of different bonuses. Also look into how to create global upgrades which can carry multiple effects! >>> Session 5: A Visual Spectacle Visual feedback is a must have for any video game and ours is no exception! With the core gameplay established, learn how to add visual components to represent different aspects of the game and even learn how to have visuals they react dynamically to your gameplay! No previous coding experience required. Processing 4 can be downloaded for free at https://processing.org/download, students will be shown how to enable Processing’s JavaScript mode within the camp.

We will be using the Processing 4 JavaScript suite. Parental Consent is required for Learners under the age of 13. It can be downloaded and installed on Windows or Mac Computers.
Unfortunately, iPads, Tablets and Chromebooks cannot download or run this software.
