There's a lot that goes into a first impression. Everything about a person — including their physical appearance, the way they talk, their nonverbal mannerisms, and even their surroundings — can impact the way they are perceived. And even though these impressions take only seconds to form, they can last for months. During the session we will focus on how to make impressions that last in a positive way. Sessions will vary depending on needs of student but some topics that may be covered are: 1. Types of interviews and how to know which one is the one to prepare for. Whether it's an interview to join a club at school, a first job, or a highly sought after scholarship, knowing the type of interview and outcome you want is important. 2. Being interviews for the perfect soundbite. If you are a young entrepreneur or athlete and have a chance of being interviewed by the media, whether school social media page or ESPN, knowing how to answer with concise and strong soundbites is important. We will discuss different options as well as figure out a 20-second, 40-second and one minute introduction answer. 3. Personal but not personal. Sharing who you are is important in an interview but too much information can be harmful. We can discuss the balance of how to know when you have talked enough about yourself and how to know when to cut yourself off. Blabbing can be a negative in most interveiws. 4. Practice and more practice. Being interviewed is like a sport or music performance and takes practice. Role playing so you can have confidence with all types of interviews and interviews is important. Not everyone is going to hold you hand and be nice and you need to be ready. As an award-winning television producer, I have interviewed all kinds of people and helped shape people into delivering the best of themselves. There are tricks that I will share that make a huge impact and I will help coach how to be yourself but still professional. There is a balance between being authentic and professional and I will develop strategies based on individual personalities and goals. I am energetic and direct in my style of teaching. You are the boss and I want to make sure you get out of the session what you need. I am very active and do not have a script but tailor the session organically to who you are and your personality.

Enthusiastic mom of 2 kids, Lisa Ely first learned to garden from her dad in their backyard when she was 6. Ever since there has not been a pile of dirt that she didn’t want to get her hands in.
Lisa is creator of Learn, Giggle & Grow Garden Curriculum and the co-author of three books under the Kinder Gardens umbrella. She is currently working on her next book series and a multi-media, adventure gardening experience for families to learn more and be inspired every day.
Prior to launching her children’s and family gardening enterprise, Lisa traveled the world over and over as an award-winning non-fiction TV producer and director. Some of her credits, like CBSs The Amazing Race, Discovery’s Garden Police and a number of shows on HGTV (including the Rose Parade) have helped her learn more about her garden passion.
Lisa’s always been described as a big kid and it wasn’t until she had kids that people stopped looking at her a bit funny when she would start a mud ball fight or run through the sprinklers. She admits that she’s good at playing because she’s had years of practice! She lives by her new family motto of “We’re washable!”
Lisa loves being in front of group sharing her love of everything fun in the garden. Some of her favorite classes are focused on worm science, eating the rainbow, tomato talk, soil on the move and root, stems, oh my!
When she’s not gardening she’s often with her husband watching their kids play baseball, paddling a dragon boat or playing her own version of “Chopped” to get a nightly dinner on the table!
