Experiencia de clase

This class is great for any kiddo who loves Eevee! In this fun ongoing class, we will learn to sculpt a new Eevee evolution each class. Each sculpture will be free standing and will stand 2-3 inches tall. Additionally, we will discuss fun and interesting facts about Eevee and her evolutions. Kids can feel free to show off their Pokemon knowledge, swag, and more.
This class is great for students who love to chat, interact, and learn at the same time.

I recommend polymer clay for each project; however, students are welcome to use air dry clay or even play dough if that is all they have available. Students will be given step-by-step verbal and visual instructions with on how to construct each character, but individual creativity and artistic expression is allowed. The difficulty of this class can be rated as beginner-plus. This class is ok for most beginners; however, some students may need more assistance than others. Students may join at any time, but please be aware that the projects do become progressively more challenging. I recommend students who have never sculpted before begin with Eevee or Flareon.

Using polymer clay helps students develop excellent fine motor skills, concentration, and problem-solving abilities, all while having tons of fun! I hope to see you there!

Orientación para padres
Play dough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. Parental supervision is highly recommended when students are using cutting tools.
Lista de útiles escolares
The best type of clay for this project is polymer, or oven-bake, clay. I recommend this sculpt and bake kit. It is great for beginners and has tons of useful tools and colors. It also contains many eye pins for making your sculpture hangable.

I have also used this smaller kit, and it is also excellent:

You are welcome to use any clay you'd like, but the larger set is the set we'll be working with in class.
Bake at 260-275° under a foil tent for 25-30 minutes. After the timer stops, turn off the oven and leave your creation inside for 20-30 minutes to prevent rapid cool down. When clay cools too fast, it can crack.

Parchment paper to cover your workspace
Saran wrap
Zipper bags (I recommend snack bags)
Toothpicks

If you do are not buying the above set, you will also need these:
Clay - You may use white clay, but we will not be painting in class. I recommend pre-colored clay.
Toothpicks
Sculpting tools (suggested but not required)
Child-safe knife or cutting tool

Other good brands of polymer clay include: Sculpey Premo, Sculpey Souflee, Fimo, and Kato. Sculpey III is ok to use, but it is quite brittle and fragile after baking. If your student plans on playing with his or her creation, I do not recommend Sculpey III.

Hello, parents!

My name is Christina Broadway, and I am so excited to meet your student! My older kids and young adults usually call me Ms. Broadway or "Ms. B." To the littles I'm typically known as "Ms. Christina."

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in English, and I'm working to earn Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Over the past 15 years, I have taught preschool, middle school, and high school children. I have taught online for almost 3 years. To say teaching is my calling is an understatement; I am a teacher at heart and it colors every aspect of my life.

My husband and I live on the Texas coast and love to fish, play board games, and travel.

My love for teaching began with English and Language Arts. Ironically, when I was in grade school, I found English to be very boring and rigid; however, when I got to college, I took some English courses that opened my eyes to how fun language and literature can be! I realized that while literacy and language art skills are important for social, academic, and vocational purposes, they can also be an avenue for creativity and artistic expression. I strive to make my classes both challenging and fun. Most of all, I always try to teach literature and grammar in a way that will be useful and meaningful to my students throughout their lives.

Finally, I am an artist. I am a self-taught baker, sculptor, and painter. (I have even painted some classic works of art ON CAKE!) I believe art is a valuable tool for cultivating self-expression, analytical skills, and emotional health. Children who participate in art and music programs are statistically more likely to perform better in their core subjects. As a result, I love connecting with students through art. I strive to make my art classes accessible for learners of all skill levels and abilities. I am truly amazed by what children are capable of when we give them the guidance and opportunity.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about me. I hope to see you soon!

-Christina
