CLASS OVERVIEW:
In this class, students learn all the basic concepts necessary for them to become confident players. This class is ideal for students that are starting band, or students that may need a refresher.

Every week, students learn a new lesson in "A New Tune a Day for Clarinet." The class is further customized according to enrollment and students prior experience. This class is taught in an "I do," "We do," style of learning each song. I play/teach a section of the song, then students play it with me. Students are encouraged to participate through answering questions throughout the class. Students are required to purchase "A New Tune a Day for Clarinet" by Ned Bennett. Classes are also supplemented with a variety of interactive materials including handouts, music, and videos.

CLASS SCHEDULE:
• Week 1: Introductions, clarinet assembly and setup, note production
• Week 2: Tonguing, the notes e, d, and c, whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes
• Week 3: The note F, dotted half notes, 3/4 time signature
• Week 4: The note G, ties
• Week 5: The note A, dynamics (loud and soft), slurred notes
• Week 6: The note F#, accidentals, the natural sign, repeat signs
• Week 7: The note B, key signatures
• Week 8: Review, Introduction of the Next Class

GENERAL POLICIES:
> Some familiarity with online classes / zoom is highly recommended. Students need to be able to focus on clarinet. In order to do so, this should not be a learners first online class.
> Please ensure you can attend all 8 weeks of the course before signing up. Recordings and materials are provided for those that have to miss a week.

CLASS LENGTH:
45 minute classes - minimum of 4 learners, maximum of 6
30 minute classes - minimum of 2 learners, maximum of 4

CURRICULUM NOTES:
> For extra support assembling the clarinet and making the first three notes (E-D-C), please see my one-time class "Clarinet Savvy Start, Let's get Playing!" Many students take this one time class first, then my group classes. It is especially helpful for learners who have no other support assembling the clarinet.
> This class can be taken WITH or WITHOUT lessons. For ongoing private lessons, please see "Clarinet, Flute, or Saxophone Lessons: All Ages/Experience Levels."
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn how to assemble the clarinet, make an initial sound, and play over a full octave (8 notes).
