Welcome to Clarinet 101! This course will help brand-new players learn the basics of their instrument to start band with confidence. My name is Kelly, and music is my jam. I like it so much that I hold two degrees, including a Masters in Music Performance and Literature, and have a local studio of 40 students! My focus in teaching is constant encouragement. Learning a new instrument and playing for others can make students a bit nervous, but by the end of this class they’ll be ready to play a few tunes for the whole family at the next holiday! This class meets four times: Class 1: Students will learn how to put the instrument together, hold it properly, and play their first three notes in a few fun songs! Class 2: After review, students will expand their note knowledge while focusing on proper embouchure to produce consistent sound. Class 3: Students will know a minimum of five notes by the end of this class, and they choose a song to practice and perform individually. Class 4: We will review the material together to improve recall. Our final session will conclude with a mini recital, where each student will perform a different song for the group! This course is very discussion-oriented and tailored so each student can receive the support or appropriate challenges that they require to progress, stay engaged, and have fun! After a bit of instruction, students will have the opportunity to apply the new information, ask questions, and play for the group to receive more individual feedback. Beginner bass clarinet students are absolutely welcome to join this class. The class will be taught on a B-flat (regular) clarinet, but specific instruction for bass clarinet students will of course be included if they are enrolled. This course is not recommended for students that have already had experience in their school band or wind ensemble, or have taken lessons previously. I offer many more classes and individual instruction that are available for every level!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn to put the instrument together and care for their clarinet. They will learn to produce consistent sound with a great embouchure foundation, and learn notes to play several songs!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
My name is Miss Kelly and I am so glad you’re here! A visit to my page means you and your learner are excited about music, and I cannot wait to share that excitement with you!
Learning music is an ongoing discussion. In our classes, learners will enjoy group classes where they are guided to feel comfortable and confident asking questions to improve their comprehension, take on challenges, and personalize their learning outcomes.
I love music so much one degree just wasn’t enough! I hold both my Masters in Music Performance and Literature from the University of Georgia, and a Bachelors in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. My studio of over 40 students ranges in age from 4-40, with students choosing lessons both in-person and online, and I frequently provide coaching to local chamber ensembles, public and private schools, and collegiate musicians.
Outside of music I enjoy reading, drinking copious amounts of tea, playing Animal Crossing, and hiking with my fiancé and our dog Mahi-Mahi!
Thanks again for stopping by, I’m looking forward to getting to know you soon!
