In this class students will take a trip around the world and learn how children their age celebrate Christmas around the world. As students complete each unit, they can track their progress in both the included passport and the Christmas around the world booklet. We will read about 6 different countries and discuss the traditions together. After each country children will be given a craft project on a pdf for that country that they can finish after the class. The countries that will be covered are: Japan, Norway, South Africa, Chile, South Korea, and Venezuela, but the countries can also be chosen to suit your needs. My goal for the class is most importantly for students to have fun and learn new and interesting ways that people celebrate Christmas around the world. We will learn about two countries each lesson. We will start each class by learning different facts about each country including its location, capital, flag, language, and other basic information. We will continue our quest of learning about this country by reading about the country's Christmas traditions. Next, we will have a class discussion allowing the student to discuss their thoughts. We will follow up by having a special Christmas craft for that country. The time may go over depending on the speed of the children and their craftsmanship, so they can either continue to work online or finish as homework. Class 1: Japan - Origami Santa Class 2: Norway - Paper Craft Heart Ornament Class 3: South Africa - South African Christmas Tree Class 4: Chile - Chilean Wreath Class 5: South Korea - Blue Santa Class 6: Venezuela - Venezuelan Cuatro

Orientación para padres
Christmas traditions in general can be a sensitive topic due to religion and different cultures. We will be looking at Christmas traditions from a secular point of view, making sure to look at the traditions from multiple different perspectives around the world. Also, I know that sometimes Christmas discussions can be tricky due to talking about presents they want to receive, or have received, but I will keep this conversation focused on traditions in order to prevent this dilemma.
