Ni Hao! Gung hay fat choy! Hello! Happy (Chinese) New Year! Together we are going to learn all about Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year or Spring Festival. This is the biggest celebration ON EARTH! Together we will learn more about this magical holiday of dragons, firecrackers, traditions, food and family. We will talk about how the holiday is different for children vs adults, why everyone wants special red envelopes, what auspicious food is, plus the history and traditions of Chinese New Year. For example, we will learn why students in China get 6-8 weeks off of school to celebrate. We will also learn about the lunar calendar, zodiac animals and how they came to be plus what each of them mean. We will also see real footage and images from celebrations in China from the Smithsonian Museum of Asian Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am thrilled to bring you this class as China is very close to my heart. I am part Chinese with family coming from the Guangdong province in Southern China. I have been celebrating Chinese New Year throughout my life. I have also taught many Chinese students living in China for 2 years who loved to share their holiday excitement with me. I look forward to see you in my class!
