Each week students will be encouraged to play many games against the computer.Experiencia de clase
This is a short and sweet intro to chess for younger students. I believe in getting students started fast so they can start playing right away. In each half hour session we will introduce and review only 5 ideas: the names of the pieces and how they move, basic captures, the simplest checkmates, the names of the squares, and how to practice by playing vs the computer. We solve problems together in a fast paced question and answer format. Students will be presented with material carefully designed for absolute beginners and others looking for an easily digestible review. I recommend students drop in to this class 1 to 3 times before moving on to Chess for (Younger) Tigers. Yes, it will be repetitive but that's just what chess beginners need: repetition, success, and confidence. (There is no need for a physical 3D chess set for this class. In fact it can be distracting.)
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will absorb just enough of the game to begin playing real games of chess.

When school went remote in March of 2020 my chess club (where I taught full time) thrived. This led to curriculum development, program development, and coaching work at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, SciGenius, BudBe, Zinkers, and the Chicago Chess Foundation. Before that I taught for three years at the Berkeley Chess School.
Chess is on the cutting edge of a shift toward globally connected, self directed, and play oriented education. I am thrilled to be part of it. As a self taught player currently rated over 2000 I have become an expert in using the most advanced learning tools available to bring lessons to life. I love helping young people discover and excel at this beautiful game.
