1 hora por semana. After each class parents will receive a followup with a link to an interactive lesson that reviews the work we did in class that day.Evaluación
If your student regularly plays online or in person games you will watch their chess rating climb.Experiencia de clase
Each class begins with 5 - 10 tactical problems chosen by theme and rating level optimized for the individual student. We talk through each puzzle and work through variations together on my shared screen. Next we review a very short (5-15 moves) game that illustrates more strategic ideas like development of pieces, control of the center, king safety, common openings, etc. Both the tactical and strategic lessons are delivered in a fun and encouraging question and answer style. We end each class with several games where your student plays directly against me. Live games mix free play and some light coaching to help guide students towards thinking deeper and finding hidden ideas. During these games your student will win! Losing is easy. Winning is hard and must be practiced. This is a different approach than many chess teachers but I think it is very important. As students improve and we develop a long track record of fun games and learning from our mistakes, outcomes of games can begin to vary. But at first your student will be very encouraged by their success. I followup every class with an interactive lesson that reviews exactly what we covered durning class. These lessons are linked to related puzzles and next level exercises for further study. When school went remote in March of 2020 my chess club (where I taught full time) thrived. This led to curriculum development, program development, and coaching work at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, SciGenius, BudBe, Zinkers, and the Chicago Chess Foundation. Before that I taught for three years at the Berkeley Chess School.
Chess is on the cutting edge of a shift toward globally connected, self directed, and play oriented education. I am thrilled to be part of it. As a self taught player currently rated over 2000 I have become an expert in using the most advanced learning tools available to bring lessons to life. I love helping young people discover and excel at this beautiful game.
