Dear Parents and Learners! Thank you for your interest in my chess class! :) This class is welcome to all learners who wish to learn about chess, who already know the rules of the game and wants to apply tactics and improve their game play. Tactics are essential throughout the game and especially during the mid-game. This series of class is a continuation from the class Chess for Rookies: Introduction Part V. Participants are expected to have basic knowledge on: -The chessboard and the basic rules of the game -The value system of the pieces -How to checkmate and how to draw -The notation -Basic structure of the game In this multi-day class we will cover: - Pin and Skewer - Double Check and Fork - Discovered Attacks and Checks - Desperado and Battery - Sacrifice and Interference Please see the syllabus for more information. The following is the structure of the class: - 5 minutes of introduction and review - 20 minutes of presentation and deciphering each part of the tactics - 15 minutes of application by solving puzzles and creating our own puzzles I highly recommend having a chessboard and chess pieces. This will allow the student create their own puzzles and analyze the position on their physical board. For the class, I will be using an online platform as well to make sure that everyone can follow at the same time. If you have any questions or need to request a different time, please don`t hesitate to communicate with me. Warmly, Louisa

Lista de útiles escolares
We will be using some screen sharing. If your learner is not familiar with the notation in chess, please make sure that he/she has access to the drawing feature in Zoom. This will allow the student to demonstrate the move on the screen. We might also play a game in the end using the platform Chessonlinefree. This website should not track your data. Depending on your browser, I would recommend to have an add blocker to avoid distraction.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I played chess throughout my childhood and I wish to introduce my passion to young learners. I played competitively in Canada for many years, notably at the Canadian Youth Chess Championship and had the chance to represent my country in international competitions such as the World Youth Chess Championship. I think this game is a fun way to develop strategies, analysis, planning, empathy and most importantly, make friends with others and the self.
