The only measure of this will be the class discussion and the Kahoots. The class will be taught more in a seminar format with question and answers rather than a lecture. Students should come prepared to engage in a dialogue with me and with their classmates.Experiencia de clase

Based on James L. Swanson's popular history book, "Chasing King's Killer," we will examine these events together using lesson slides, group discussion, question and answer, short video clips, and a newspaper archives. At the end of each meeting, we will have a Kahoot quiz for fun and knowledge retention. The course will meet twice and follow this basic outline. Orientación para padres
This is a shocking set of events by nature because it concerns an assassination and violence against the civil rights movement by police and society at-large in the South. Sensitive learners should be aware of this beforehand.

This PBS American Experience clip would be an example of a video presented in my class: https://www.pbs.org/video/memphis-ride-through-memphis-hytkpo/ Another type of film clip I would use would be short overviews for student's who have not read about the subject. This history.com video would be in that category: https://www.history.com/topics/black-history/martin-luther-king-jr-assassination

I have now taught some 80 learners on Outschool, and this is the third such course that involves an assassination. This adds natural drama to the lesson, but it is also instructive as to the challenges facing our country even today, with the recent Capitol Insurrection. Prior to Outschool, I taught college students at Marymount California University. American History includes many sad chapters, with violence and genocide against American Indians, and racism against people of color such as African Americans in the South and Japanese Americans during World War II. I exercise sensitivity in my approach to these topics and avoid gratuitous sources. I also have a master's degree from Pepperdine University (2010), so I was taught these same subject by my professors there, and also instructed in the approach to difficult topics.
