La telaraña de Carlota - Lectura: Un estudio novedoso sobre literatura

In this class we will discuss the novel Charlotte's Web together. Students are to read or listen to the assigned chapters before the first class hour. Class periods will be made up of reading and discussing parts of the text together and also working on various Language Arts activities during class time. Skills that will be covered are:
Common/Proper Nouns
Singular/Plural forms of nouns
Contractions
Possessives
Identifying Sentences and Fragments

Day 1 – Discuss Chapters 1-4; Discuss title, author, illustrator, table of contents, etc. 
Day 2 – Discuss Chapters 5-9; Common and Proper Nouns
Day 3 – Discuss Chapters 10–13; Singular and Plural Nouns; Homework - Write 4 sentences about Fern. 
Day 4 – Discuss Chapters 14-18; Contractions; Homework - Write 4 sentences about Wilbur. 
Day 5 – Discuss Chapters 19-21; Possessives; Homework - Write 4 sentences about Charlotte. 
Day 6 – Discuss Chapter 22; Sentences and Fragments;  In class writing assignment

Students will do quite a bit of writing and reading during class time.  We will make charts of proper and common noun, singular and plural verbs, etc. and each student will also be asked to read a few short passages from the text during each class period.  This class works very well if your child is comfortable with reading and writing. Knowing how to spell words is not essential - just being very comfortable with pencil and paper will be helpful. 

The novel Charlotte's Web is on a 3rd or 4th grade reading level.  Students do not need to know all the words in the book in order to be successful; however please examine the book before enrolling to make sure that this book is a good fit for the student.  Parents are welcome to read the novel with the student if the reading level is a little high for independent reading.  Listening to an audio recording is also very acceptable. Watching the movie is recommended only after the class is complete - not in preparation for the class (though if the child has seen the movie in the past, that is just fine!)
