While I don't plan on grading students, I'd like to see progress of some kind each week. If struggles come up during practice, though, we will use lesson time to resolve those issues!Experiencia de clase

Nivel Beginner - Intermediate
In my private cello lessons, I'd like to start by understanding the student's playing experience and goals. This might mean the first lesson involves more talking than usual, but I believe that by having a chance to know students, I can adapt my teaching to suit them and what they would like to achieve. With that said, I will go over standard techniques as necessary (left hand positioning, bow arm movements, practice habits, etc.) but I'd like the student to feel comfortable enough to ask question and speak up when something doesn't feel right. Cello playing should not only look and sound good, but it most importantly should feel good, and that is a primary goal of mine to work with every student on. In terms of music, I have some materials on hand I am happy to share (scale sheets, exercises, some pieces of music), although, I can write/ arrange a student's favorite songs to learn on cello at a difficulty that suits them. I also have a background in music theory, and if I see it's helpful for a student, I feel it's worth reviewing some of these concepts, especially since they often create patterns on the instrument! Above all, I believe playing music is not a one-size-fits-all approach - it matters most that I get to know students and, while using my tips and ideas, respect where they are coming from and adjust to them.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
I believe music is accessible to anybody who would like to learn. As someone with ADHD, I understand certain difficulties, like concentration. With that said, I will do my best to create practice plans unique to each student.
Requisitos previos
While this isn't necessary, it would be beneficial if students know how to read bass clef notes, particularly from C below the staff to D above the staff.
Lista de útiles escolares

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Licenciatura en Música desde Duquesne University
My name is Alyssa, and I am a cellist! I just received my bachelor's in music performance at Duquesne University, and I am a member of/ play with several orchestras in the region, such as Akron Symphony, Youngstown Symphony, and Erie Philharmonic. As a private cello instructor, I look forward to sharing my tips, tricks, thoughts, and experiences to help other musicians enjoy their cello-playing journey, regardless of age or playing level. Among my core principles of teaching is realizing that this process is NOT a "one-size-fits-all" activity. Everybody learns differently, and I am determined to guide students with strategies that work best with them individually - and this includes teaching students how to actually practice on their own! While I am trained in the "classical" style, I also improvise, play jazz cello, and compose my own pieces. I'd also say I am a pretty creative person, so expect to see some fun whiteboard drawings in my lessons!
