In this multi-day course, students will read a variety of short story genres and analyze the literary devices and elements used within each story. Students will discuss the larger meaning of the story and real-world applications. Students will be challenged to identify the author's purpose, mood, tone, setting, characters, plot, and climax. Session 1: Read and Analyze: The Monkey's Paw by W. W. Jacobs Session 2: Read and Analyze: The Lottery by Shirley Jackson Session 3: Read and Analyze: The Most Dangerous Game by by Richard Connell Session 4: Read and Analyze:The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant Session 5: Read and Analyze:The Veldt by Ray Bradbury

Course is recommended for mature students. Some topics for the short stories discussed may be upsetting to some students. Topics include death, magic, gang mentality, murder, hunting, and violence.
