The first lesson will be a short lecture on how art journaling can be a powerful processing and reflection tool for everything from your inner thoughts to school lessons. Multiple examples will be shared and students will participate in a fun brainstorming activity. Lessons two through four will begin with an interactive Improv game to get the creative juices flowing and then the week's prompt will be shared and discussed. Students will brainstorm ideas for how they can approach the prompt and begin individual drafting of their response to the week's prompt. Lesson five will be an opportunity for students to share an entry of their choice with their fellow students and explain how they interpreted the prompt and why. They'll discuss their process for creating their entry. We'll also brainstorm a list of prompts they can take with them after the course has ended. Students do not need any prior experience with art, journaling, or self-reflection to participate fully in the class. Day One Introduction: What is self-reflection? Why self-reflection through art journaling? Day Two Prompt: Introduce yourself Day Three Prompt: Create a map of your favorite place (real or imagined) Day Four Prompt: Draw a favorite childhood memory Day Five Wrap Up: Showcase and where to from here.
