Welcome back to the world of Engineering Design! This is the Level 3 Class for CADD and Engineering Design with Fusion 360. Students will learn more about the engineering design process and how to use the software tools to design and modify product prototypes through a series of short design projects. Unlike our previous classes, we will have a new design project every lesson. Students will acquire hands-on computer drafting skills which they can use for post-secondary education vocational goals or as a component of further engineering studies. Lessons will be introduced and modeled by the teacher in pre-recorded videos. Students will complete the steps with the video. The teacher will be available by messaging and live by appointment to facilitate understanding and to troubleshoot problems. As part of this class, we will also have discussion posts for students to respond to the teacher about engineering concepts and Fusion 360 software features. There will be video instructions for each step of the project available. There are optional textbooks that students can purchase if they wish, but they are not necessary to take the course. The instructor will be available for questions, help, and troubleshooting during the week. Students will be expected to complete the week's assigned project steps, and will receive feedback on their progress. They will be able to improve and resubmit any projects at any time during the class. This class is designed to be the Level 3 course following the Level 1 and Level 2 Fusion 360 classes. I will let students take it without the pre-requisite by permission (i.e., they have previous 3D drafting or modeling experience. Students will need good basic computer skills and a fast internet connection. We will be using Autodesk Fusion 360, an industry-standard cloud-based design platform, which can run on 64-bit operating systems on either Windows or Mac-based PCs. The system requirements for the software are listed here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-Autodesk-Fusion-360.html Students will be able to get the software free of charge by downloading the personal version for this class. (Students may also opt to get the free educational version if they qualify.) Students under 13 will need to have a parent create their account with Autodesk to be able to download the software. https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn to create and modify short projects, much as a real-world CAD operator or draftsman would design.
Students will learn to troubleshoot and edit their designs.

I am a certified/licensed middle and high school teacher: Technology Education. Grades 6-12 (Texas) and Technology Education. REPA 3, Grades 5-12 (Indiana). I've taught CAD to high school students in both public and private schools since 2013 and here on Outschool since 2019. I had almost 20 years of experience working with engineering and architectural firms before I became a teacher, so I have a good perspective on how these skills integrate into a real-world career.
