Construir y escribir

Students will have the opportunity to engage their kinesthetic abilities to expand on their creative writing abilities.

Each week in this ongoing course students will be given a prompt.  Students will then be able to build/create based on the prompt.  Building blocks are ideal, but students can use any materials to engage in the building portion of the class. 
After about 10 minutes of building time, students will have an opportunity to begin writing.  Students will spend approximately 15-20 minutes of class drafting a story to go with their creation.  At the end of each session, students will have an opportunity to share their creations and their stories.  I will incorporate various teaching into each session (structure, mechanics, and elements of writing).


Example Prompts:
Build a Robot.  Write a story about your robot's adventure cleaning your room.

Build an Apple.  Fall is around the corner, build an apple or anything else to represent Fall. What is your favorite Fall activity, and why?

Build a Dinosaur.  Write a story about what it would be like to live with dinosaurs.

Build a Flag.  Write a description of what each part of your flag represents (for example, on the American flag the stripes represent the 13 original colonies).

*At times I may request a picture of your student's writing.  This will allow for additional feedback and help guide my teaching for future sessions!
