Students will need at least a gallon size bag of building bricks (having more is better). I will present a challenge for them to build, and they will spend about 25 minutes building their creation while being able to converse with one another and see ideas that I show. I always try to show ideas that challenges them to use their bricks in a new way. From taking car or house windows to use in a robot or using very common bricks to make animals. At the end of the class each learner will share about what they created and have a chance to show it off. This course will have a new challenge each week. They are also more than welcome to build anything they can imagine, even if it doesn't fit our theme for the week. They can bring any creations they have been working on to share as well. This is a fun, social time to get to know other kids and be inspired to create new things. Each week we will have a different challenge. Some of those challenges include houses, vehicles, things that fly, and boats. The challenges will be sent as a classroom post the day of the class. This will give learners and opportunity to be thinking of ideas and even get started if they like. I do not provided guided instruction for each build. Students are encouraged to use their imagination to create something of their own, but I will show examples of different building techniques for our challenges that students can incorporate into their own build. Learners can stay and repeat the challenges as much as they would like. I rotate through 8-10 weeks of different challenges, but they are always welcome to stick around and build something different than they did several weeks ago. Each learner is encouraged to share their build to practice speaking in front of a group and using descriptive words to tell about what they have been building. They can also bring something to class each week that they have been working on outside of class if they wish. I like to let all learners stay unmuted. However, in the event of background noise, I may mute them. It would be very helpful if they could be familiar with the mute/unmute function of Zoom. ***Reminder*** if more than one child is taking the class, all siblings must be registered. They can both be on the same device. This is a subscription class. If your learner remains subscribed, you will be charged each Sunday for the following week of class, until you unsubscribe. If we have a full class we may go over 5 minutes or so on time. Please let me know if your learner needs to leave at the allotted class end time. I want to make sure all learners have time to share. I also have a class for older learners as well Weekly class topics Classes meeting: 9/4-9/10 Robots 9/11-9/17 Things that go in space 9/18-9/24 Transportation 9/25-10/1 Pirates, super heroes or fairytales 10/2-10/8 Things that fly 10/9-10/15 Books, movies or tv shows 10/16-10/22 Animals 10/23-10/29 Fall Themed Challenge 10/30-11/5 Games 11/6-11/12 Robots 11/13-11/19 Things you find underwater 11/20-11/26 Lego food or sports 11/27-12/3 Types of Lego Buildings 12/4-12/10 Bridges 12/11-12/17 Winter themed challenge 12/18-12/24 Transportation 12/25-12/31 Things that fly 1/1-1/7 Things that go in space 1/8 - 1/14 Builds primarily of one color or useful things 1/15-1/21 Games 1/22-1/28 Occupations 1/29-2/4 Boats 2/5-2/11 Creatures or other make believe characters 2/12-2/18 Water themed builds 2/19-2/25 Animals 2/26-3/4 Food and Plants These are subject to adjustment, as sometimes I receive learner input on challenges and like to incorporate those as well. Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Maestría en Ciencia desde The University of Central Arkansas
I have a Master's degree in Family and Consumer Science and have been an FCS teacher since 2012. I also homeschool my four children. I have children who love robotics, Lego, animals and gardening. I enjoy making Lego and STEAM creations with my children. I love to broaden the horizon of learners through building bricks, animals and creativity. A fun fact about myself and my family is that we currently have 4 guinea pigs, 3 hermit crabs, 2 dogs and 2 cats!
