1 hora por semana. Students will be asked to apply the lessons they learn in class to their activities outside of class. Students will be asked each week to reflect on a communication challenge or success they had outside of our class and how they handled it.

Why Take This Class? 🤔

Many students excel in their academic subjects but struggle when it comes to communicating in class, collaborating with peers, or effectively engaging with teachers. Without strong communication skills, even the brightest students may face challenges in school.

This class addresses this gap by providing a supportive environment where students can develop the essential communication skills they need to succeed academically and socially. With the guidance of a communication professor who understands what students need to thrive, this course will help your child feel more confident in discussions, group projects, and presentations.

Course Overview 📈

Throughout this course, students will learn how to organize their thoughts, clearly express ideas, actively listen, and navigate classroom dynamics like discussions and conflict resolution.

Each week, students will focus on a specific communication skill, with interactive lessons, group discussions, role-playing, and hands-on activities. They will receive personalized feedback and practice their skills in a supportive space. Homework may involve skill-building exercises to prepare for the next session.

How Is the Class Structured? 📚

Each weekly session kicks off with a warm-up activity to get students comfortable and encourage participation. Students will then engage in interactive lessons that incorporate role-playing, group work, and games to develop their skills in a fun and practical way. I use a combination of lectures, discussions, and activities that align with real-world examples, keeping students engaged while building their communication toolkit step by step. 🧠🎲

Unidad 1: Presenting Yourself Effectively

Lección 1:

Building Confidence in Classroom Participation

 Help students become comfortable speaking up in class. Techniques for overcoming nervousness when answering questions in class.
Role-playing classroom participation. Help students become more comfortable with impromptu speaking situations, such as answering unexpected questions. Quick, fun impromptu speaking games where students are given random topics to talk about for 30 seconds to a minute. Group discussion on strategies for organizing thoughts quickly under pressure.

Active Listening & Quick Thinking: Responding with Confidence

 Teach active listening skills and how to respond thoughtfully to others. Listening games to sharpen focus. Practice giving thoughtful responses to classmates and teachers. Learn how to stay engaged in discussions and ask meaningful questions. Help students become more comfortable with impromptu speaking situations, such as answering unexpected questions. Quick, fun impromptu speaking games where students are given random topics to talk about for 30 seconds to a minute.

Presenting with Confidence

 Develop the skills needed to create and deliver a great classroom presentation. How to structure a simple presentation (using a familiar topic like a hobby or recent project). Voice projection and body language tips for presentations. Students present a 1-minute topic to practice and learn techniques to organize and deliver engaging presentations.

Effective Collaboration in Small Groups

 Learn about the common issues with group work and strategies to address them. Students will engaging in role playing games to handle problematic group members and apple communication strategies for working effectively with others.
