Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Students will be asked to read approximately 10 pages a day outside of class and complete simple assignments as they read. Please read chapters 1-6 before the first class.

Experiencia de clase

Dorothy lives with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry in Kansas along with her dog Toto. One day, their house was carried away by a tornado with Dorothy and Toto inside! Come join me and learn all about Dorothy and Toto's adventures in the wonderful land of Oz. Come meet some new friends, discover new lands and learn all about this modern fairy tale.

Each lesson we will learn new vocabulary words, character development, theme, author's purpose, and use different strategies to help improve reading comprehension. Students will be asked to read approximately 10 pages a day outside of class and should be ready to discuss topics from the assigned text. If time allows, we may read aloud/along in class but this is optional.

Weekly schedule. Meets once per week. 
Week 1: Chapters 1-6 (The Cyclone through The Cowardly Lion)*
Week 2: Chapters 7-11 (The Journey to the Great Oz through The Wonderful Emerald City of Oz)
Week 3: Chapters 12-15 (The Search for the Wicked Witch through The Discovery of Oz, the Terrible)
Week 4: Chapters 16-24 (The Magic Art of the Great Humbug through Home Again)
*Please read chapters 1-6 prior to our first class.

⭐ Students should be able to independently read at a third grade level or higher for this class.

⭐ A digital or physical copy of the book The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum is required for this class. 

⭐Students should read chapter assignments BEFORE the start of each class to be able to participate in the full discussion. This includes reading chapters 1-6 prior to the first class.

I have my bachelors degree in special education plus additional course work for art and TESOL (teaching English as a second language). I have been working with children for more than 20 years including as a certified teacher and a homeschool mom.  I have worked with a wide variety of age groups and and taught a variety of subjects including severe-profound special education preschool, honors high school and everything in between. But my specialties are drawing, brick building classes, elementary literacy, special education and baking. I even own small bakery!

My husband and I have three children. We enjoy camping, hiking, going to the park and playing board games as a family. My personal hobbies include baking, reading, painting, drawing and crocheting.
