Join Anne Shirley, Diana Barry, Ms. Carol, and friends in this once weekly, 7 week book club as we read and discuss this delightful, enchanting classical story! Kindred spirits unite!

Eleven-year-old Anne Shirley has never known a real home. Since her parents' deaths, she's bounced around to foster homes and orphanages. When she is sent by mistake to live with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert at the snug white farmhouse called Green Gables, she wants to stay forever. But Anne is not the sturdy boy Matthew and Marilla were expecting.

She's a mischievous, talkative redheaded girl with a fierce temper, who tumbles into one scrape after another. Anne is not like anybody else, the Cuthberts agree; she is special, a girl with an enormous imagination. All she's ever wanted is to belong somewhere. And the longer she stays at Green Gables, the harder it is for anyone to imagine life without her.

Anne of Green Gables, by L. M. Montgomery, is a timeless classic that delighted girls for over a hundred years! Your students are going to love Anne!

In this multi-day class, we will meet once weekly for 7 weeks to dive deep. During class time, full participation in class discussion is expected. There is grace for a shy student, of course, but students will be encouraged to dive into the discussion as they acclimate to the group. Each student will have a turn to share their thoughts and ideas. I will have questions and discussion prompts ready each week, should conversation lag. After our discussion time, we will end with a game if time permits! My book clubs are typically highly engaging, highly interactive, very lively!

Chapters will be assigned to be read ahead of time, before class. There are 38 chapters in this book. The book is also available as an audiobook! All of class time will be dedicated to discussing the books, applying critical thinking, discussing characters, plot, and other literary aspects, designing a book cover, and ending with a fun game, all related to the book. Snacks are always welcome!

Orientación para padres
In this book, there are references to people of French descent that are portrayed negatively. There is also mention of the two political parties of Canada, The Grits and the Tories, that were in opposition during the time period of this book. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read. Racism or racial stereotypes are never acceptable to me, even in a fictional, magical world. Ms. Carol has been a voracious reader since childhood. Her lifelong passion is to cultivate curiosity in children, and to inspire a lifelong love of learning, especially the reading and enjoyment of beautiful literature! She holds a a PhD in pedagogy and history, with a Master’s in Cultural Studies.
