Join Ms. Carol and friends as we adventure with Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie, sisters that do everything together, from visiting the candy store to getting scarlet fever, but especially celebrating their Jewish heritage as we read All-Of-A-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor. Meet Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie who live with their parents in New York City at the turn of the century. Together they share adventures that find them searching for hidden buttons while dusting Mama's front parlor and visiting with the peddlers in Papa's shop on rainy days. The girls enjoy doing everything together, especially when it involves holidays and surprises. But no one could have prepared them for the biggest surprise of all! During class time, full participation in class discussion is expected. There is grace for a shy student, of course, but students will be encouraged to dive into the discussion as they acclimate to the group. Each student will have a turn to share their thoughts and ideas. I will have questions and discussion prompts ready each week, should conversation lag. After our discussion time, we will end with a game if time permits! My book clubs are typically highly engaging, highly interactive, very lively! Chapters will be assigned to be read ahead of time, before class. There are 13 chapters in this book. All of class time will be dedicated to discussing the books, character studies, guessing what happens next, and ending with fun games related to the book. Our last class will be a book party! Snacks are welcome and encouraged! Please read chapters 1-3 BEFORE class! Please read chapters 4-6 BEFORE class! Please read chapters 7-9 BEFORE class! Please read chapters 10-13 BEFORE class!
