In this interactive class we will learn about the human and physical geography of the most biodiverse place on earth: The Amazon Rainforest. We will study the rainforest biome in regards to the climate, ecosystem, layers of a rainforest canopy and explore the wildlife that calls the Amazon home. There are ferocious jaguars, friendly capybaras, slithering anacondas, unique river dolphins, the Jesus lizard that can walk on water and the Goliath Spider which is so large that it eats birds! There are also unique and beautiful flowers such as the giant Victoria Water Lilly and the stinky Rafflesia flower (the largest and rarest flower on earth!) We will also look at intriguing areas of the Amazon such as the legendary boiling river. We will also learn about the legend of El Dorado and how new radar technology is revealing secrets underneath the thick forest canopy. No prior experience needed, all are welcome. For the last 10 minutes of class, children will get to create their own drawings of the Amazon rainforest, please bring paper and pencils.
