Keep in mind that this class meets for 1 hour 30 minutes each session. The class dates are as follows: The class meets on 3 consecutive Tuesdays April 2nd, April 9th and April 16th Here’s what we will be learning in each class. Week of April 2nd : Project #1 Beaded Hoop Earrings Week of April 9th: Project #2 Beaded Necklace Week of April 16th: Project #3 Stretch Bracelet What Students Will Learn Basic Jewelry-Making Skills: Each session of this class focuses on one type of jewelry piece. In the first session we will make hoop earrings, then in the second session a necklace and then finally in the last session we will make stretch bracelets. Students will learn how to use jewelry making pliers and crimp tool to secure beads onto wires and necklaces. We will learn how to design a bead pattern and then close the piece so it is secure for the wearer. Tools and Materials: Don’t worry if you don’t have all the class materials needed on the first day. Just make sure you purchase what you need for the first day. You can then take the next week to order or go out and shop for the rest of the materials. Students will need access to jewelry making hand tools, beads and other items. A detailed supply list can be found in the Materials section. I will provide a link to Michaels.com where parents can purchase these and other materials if they don’t already have them. Safety Precautions: Before using the tools, students will receive thorough instruction and a clear demonstration on safety precautions to ensure safe handling and usage. Teaching Procedure: Through live demonstrations, step-by-step live instructions and also pre-recorded videos students will see very clearly how to hold the tools and how to easily string beads of any size onto the nylon covered wire, earring wires and stretch cord. Students can expect personalized feedback on their individual technique for holding the tools and using them and I will provide corrective feedback where needed. No Experience Necessary and Non-competitive Class Atmosphere: This class is suitable for beginners with no prior experience in jewelry making. I plan to create an atmosphere free of judgement where students support and encourage each other. Students will also be inspired by showcased pieces, fostering creativity and idea generation. The informal setting encourages collaboration, mirroring a creative studio atmosphere, where students freely exchange ideas and seek input from peers.

Orientación para padres
We will be using wire cutters and crimp tools. The wire cutter works much like a scissor and is equally as dangerous. Care needs to be taken when handling the wire cutter because it can nip, scratch, cut or pierce through skin.
The crimp tool is used to press a metal tube closed around the wire and can present the danger of pinching fingers or any skin close to the tool when using it so care needs to be taken.
Beads come in various shapes, sizes and finishes and can be dangerous. Please check the manufacturers label for any warnings with respect to the beads you decide to purchase.
Requisitos previos
Students should have enough dexterity and strength to manipulate the tools.

NOTE: ( Lobster Clasps come in a pack of many or you can purchase a few in a pack. I suggest getting at least 10 so your student can make at least 5 necklaces and 5 bracelets. These pieces are small so they can fall and then get lost in the carpet shag or behind furniture so make sure you have enough to cover these situations. The price varies greatly on these. * 1 Pack assorted crimp beads https://www.michaels.com/product/assorted-metal-crimp-tubes-600ct-by-bead-landing-10697731 * Bead Organizer Trays or small bowls to keep beads organized and easily accessible during the jewelry making process. https://www.michaels.com/product/clear-turquoise-8-compartment-storage-box-by-bead-landing- 10505021?michaelsStore=5808&inv=2 * Measuring tape to determine wrist size ( a ruler will not work ) https://www.michaels.com/product/loops-threads-tape-measure-60-10340669 ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— DAY THREE STRETCH BRACELET * Wire Cutter ( or Scissors ) https://www.michaels.com/product/side-cutter-by-bead-landing-10334526?michaelsStore=5808&inv=2 * .032 inch ( 0.8 mm) transparent stretch cord https://www.michaels.com/product/elasticity-stringing-cord-8mm-clear-25-meters-166288368395173918 * variety of beads in different colors, shapes, and sizes. These beads should be larger sized beads than we used in the necklace and earring because we want to experiment with larger size beads. Please make sure the cord can go through the hole of the beads. Aim for beads with holes large enough to easily thread the cord through. Recommended bead sizes: 6mm to 10mm diameter. NOTE ON BEAD SIZE: A good rule of thumb for the size of beads to use with stretch cord is that the hole of the bead should be at least twice the diameter of the cord. In this case the cord diameter is .032 inches, so you want beads with a hole of at least .064 inches (or 1.63 mm). This will allow the cord to move through the bead easily and reduce the chance of the bracelet breaking. You can certainly go larger than .064 inches, but that will affect the look and wearability of your bracelet. IMPORTANT NOTE: It's essential to test the bead size with the cord prior to the start of our class to ensure a proper fit before stringing all the beads onto the bracelet. I would hate for your student to not have the proper bead size and combination of cord diameter. * Measuring tape to determine wrist size https://www.michaels.com/product/loops-threads-tape-measure-60-10340669 * Optional: Bead Stopper or Tape https://www.michaels.com/product/beadalon-small-pink-tip-bead-stoppers-D521866S ( Used to secure one end of the cord while stringing the beads to prevent them from sliding off. ) If you have any questions on materials or if you are not sure what to purchase please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Please send me a list of the supplies you have so that I can be sure you are ready for class each week.
