I also have this same class for ages of 7-11 It's important to learn about and discuss difficult events like the Tulsa Race Riot. This event destroyed thousands of black lives. It's also vital to talk about how Africans Americans overcame such atrocities. In this class, students will learn about Black Wall Street, which was once a flourishing black community that eventually ended due to racial terrorism. Students will learn about how Black business owners thrived and rose to success in their community. Many of its' residents were either formally enslaved or were descendants of those enslaved. However, it did not let that stop them from becoming entrepreneurs and rising to the top. Students will know how the Tulsa Race Massacre destroyed that in less than three days, affecting thousands of black residents. We will have discussions about racial violence and oppression. Students will understand how that destroyed years of black success within the their community. By the end of class, students will understand: - What Black Wall Street was - How racial violence affected lives (Especially during the 1920's) - The Tulsa Race Riot - How the Black Community overcame it Sometimes classes can go over 5 minutes. I allow each student, if they chose, to ask questions and answer questions. I also allow them to respectfully express their feelings and thoughts. If you would like to request a certain time or date, please let me know :)

As an ESL Teacher and Tutor, I have taught classes on African American history, American Figures, Racism, and the civil rights movement for over 4 years. I have experience in teaching this subject to students in elementary, middle, and high school. I also have experience tutoring college students. I have a degree in Communications, so I will be able to communicate and teach this topic without being bias. I was able to research, write essays, and give speeches about this topic throughout college. I was trained by professionals to understand history and the issues surrounding history. Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned. It is very important to include all students.
