**Please note:  if there is no section of this class scheduled, and your learner has taken the Advanced Vet 1, you may enroll them in any Advanced Vet class 2-6. They do not need to be taken in order, they are only different topics.

This course will explore a variety of topics that are related to veterinary science. (cats and dogs). See the syllabus for details. 

In this class PowerPoints and discussions will be supplemented with some in class and outside of class videos. 

Learners should have taken Advanced Veterinary / Vet Medicine 1 or get prior permission from the teacher before registering. This is recommended, but not required.

Lección 1:
Basic Nutrition
 In this lesson learners will become familiar with essential nutrients and what is require for feeding cats and dogs. We will also distinguish "ingredient vs nutrient" which is important for the next lesson on reading pet food labels.

Lección 2:
Reading Pet Food Labels
 In this class learners will begin to understand how read pet food labels and what tricks pet food companies use to market their products. Pet food labels will be provided in the lesson slides. Learners may bring their own for practice.

Lección 3:
Care of The Hospitalized Patient
 Care of pets in the hospital will be discussed including how to get cats and dogs out of their cages safely, cleaning and disinfection, and patient treatment sheet use and practice will be demonstrated as learners follow along.

Lección 4:
Recognizing Pain
 How to recognize pain in the canine and feline patients will be shown and a pain scale will be utilized during in class practice.

Any print outs will be posted for each class, where they are needed, the week after they we’re demonstrated. 
CLASS 2: A pet food label will be used. Teacher will provide an example, or the learner may bring their own cat/dog food label.

I have been a certified veterinary technician for more than 30 years, have a MEd from Colorado State University and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.  

I have been teaching  at local colleges in Veterinary Assistant Programs, and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school as well as a local private university in an Equine Studies Program. 

 I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, a Paint Horse, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!  

I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with others!
