Clase flexible de lectura inicial: decodificación de vocales largas

This class is geared toward students who are just beginning to read long vowels, vowel digraphs, irregular, and r controlled vowels.  Most word families are long vowels, but some fall into those other categories. Most students at this level are probably Kindergarten, First, or Second Grade.  A struggling third grader may also fit this description well. This class is not appropriate for 3 year olds. 

Prerequisites: Knows letter names and letter sounds, and can sound out small cvc words independently.  Ready to move onto long vowels, vowel digraphs, r controlled vowels, and longer words. Can use scissors pretty well.

Each class will focus on a word family.  A word family is a group of words that rhyme, such as the -at family would be cat, hat, sat, mat, etc.  Most of the words will have blends (sl, sk, tr, etc.) at the beginning. Students do not need prior experience with blends, and they will be introduced in every class. This course is a series of twelve classes.  I will provide an interactive video demonstrating decoding the word family together and do a word study aloud, then students will complete an activity that corresponds to the word family of the week. Each week parents will be expected to do a small amount of prep work in printing materials and gathering a few art supplies. If your child has difficulty cutting with scissors, I would suggest pre-cutting the needed materials for them or sitting nearby to help.  

Student: 
1. View videos
2. Interact with videos, audibly reading the words aloud and answering questions
3. Complete the weekly projects 
4. Share the weekly projects to the classroom 
5. Interact with the teacher on the classroom page 
6. Let your classmates know your thoughts on their projects 

Teacher: 
1. Will leave feedback for students on their projects in the classroom
2. Will post weekly interactive videos and games 
3. Will help scaffold student discussions of each other's projects through the classroom

Week 1 - ate word family, make an ate word family pizza (paper)
Week 2 - oon word family, make a word family themed 3D hot air balloon and share it in the classroom
Week 3-age word family, create a bird cage
Week 4 -ake word family, create a paper cake and share in the classroom 
Week 5- -ine word family, let's dine on some yarn spaghetti with our words
Week 6 -ight word family, make the night sky from your ight words, tell us about your favorite constellation in the classroom
Week 7-ace word family, play a race track game, share with us the car you decorated for your track
Week 8  -ain word family, create an umbrella with word family rain
Week 9 -ave/aze word family, complete a maze
Week 10-ar word family, create a bug in a jar with your words
Week 11 -each word family, create a beach with your words
Week 12-ew word family, follow along with a paper bubble activity and share in the classroom
