This class is a beginning snare drum class. Learners must have a snare drum or snare drum pad and drumsticks. We will begin with the learner's level of experience and add to it. Some learners may already know how to read notes and others may not. We will learn as we go using a shared screen and shared Google Slides. Parents are welcome to review and download the slides after enrolling in the class. We will play together with student sound off or with teacher sound off when playing along with a demonstration or practice video. The teacher will demonstrate as necessary. The student will get the maximum playing time possible in every class meeting. There is no fixed ending to this class, because each player is different. It can take a different amount of time for each person to practice and master the material in a lesson. We will go at the learner's pace. We will use the online version of Alfred's Snare Drum Method Book 1. It was properly purchased and will be available on Google Slides for the student to use. Learners have the option to purchase the book as well. The lessons start with steady beat, quarter notes, quarter rests, and hand alternation. We can spend as much time as each learner requires on each lesson. Through the book, we will practice different types of musical note lengths, what to do when we read them, drum solos, drum exercises, and a few drum rudiments. The rudiments are special things we can do on a drum to make our patterns sound more interesting. We will always begin our classes with a short discussion of the week, and how student practice went. My goal is for us to be music friends. We will talk at the end of each class about what can be practiced that week. If the student likes, we can end with a joke or two, or even a riddle. Class Syllabus: Lesson 1 - Quarter notes, quarter rests, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies Lesson 2 - Eighth notes, quarter notes, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies Lesson 3 - Quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies, drum solo with dynamics and multiple endings Lesson 4 - Eighth notes, quarter notes, eighth rests, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies Lesson 5 - Eighth notes, eighth rests, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies Lesson 6 - Dotted half notes, dotted quarter notes, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies, drum solo with pianissimo, fortissimo, D.S, Fine, and D.S. al Fine Lesson 7 - Sixteenth notes, eighth notes, quarter notes, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies Lesson 8 - Sixteenth notes, eighth notes, hand alternation (switching), following written music, hands together combination studies, drum solo with accents, mezzo forte, mezzo piano, and f-p dynamic changes

Learners will be able to switch hands (alternate). They will watch the sheet music to see which hand to play and when.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
This class is one-to-one, and can be adapted to accommodate different learners and different learning speeds. I have taught in integrated classrooms for years in multiple subject areas and can adapt my teaching methods.
Orientación para padres
This class includes third-party tools. Those tools are Google Slides, Google Docs, and embedded YouTube videos for instrumental practice. These videos are exemplars showing how to play the snare drum and demonstrating each lesson.
Requisitos previos
There are no pre-requirements for learners, but they do need a snare drum or snare drum pad and drumsticks. Please send a message to get help if there is any confusion. Snare drum pads are available, and make less sound than a drum.

I have been teaching music since 1991, and began teaching percussion in 2017. This is my first foray into specifically teaching snare drum online. I have already begun teaching this subject online, so I know it works well. It's a fun class for the student and for me.
