Experiencia de clase

This beginning class piano class is great for students who are interested in learning how to play the piano. No prior music experience is needed. However, students will need access to a piano or keyboard, as well as copy of the Piano Adventures Primer Level Lesson and Theory books. Lessons will be taught using a full size 88-key piano equipped with a damper pedal. Options will be given for students using smaller sized keyboards.

Each lesson video will be equivalent to what you'd expect during a 30 minute live private or group lesson. Lesson videos are posted each Monday, and are Nearpod interactive videos. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions through the video prompts, which I will respond to individually. Students also have the opportunity to submit videos of themselves playing in the classroom, or directly to me for feedback.

Week 1 - Introduction to the Piano
Lesson: In the video, we'll go over how to correctly sit at the piano, and the finger numbers of each hand. We'll also discuss how the piano is arranged, looking at sets of 2 and 3 black keys.
Activity: In the lesson book, we'll trace our hands and add finger numbers. We'll also work through the flashcards. In the theory book, students will have the opportunity to record their examples of playing higher or lower, and post it in the classroom.

Week 2 - Quarter Notes
Lesson: Using what we learned in the previous lesson, we'll practice playing quarter note rhythms.
Activity: In the theory book, students can practice rhythm call, and post a recording of themselves completing the activity. They'll also have the option to post their High-Wire Tune on a Nearpod collaborate board.

Week 3 - Half Notes and Whole Notes
Lesson: We'll add half notes and whole notes to our rhythm patterns, to ultimately play Old MacDonald
Activity: In the theory book, students can practice Farmer, Count Your Bleats, and post a recording of them clapping 2 lines together. They'll also have the option to post to a Nearpod collaborate board.

Week 4 - The Musical Alphabet
Lesson: We'll start using note names instead of finger numbers, focusing on C-D-E and then F-G-A-B. By the end of the lesson, they should feel comfortable playing Ode to Joy.
Activity: In the theory book, students will have the opportunity to post a recording of them playing their Martian melody, or they can write it out and post it to a Nearpod collaborate board.

Metas de aprendizaje

By the end of this class, students should feel comfortable playing songs in several different areas of the piano, using both note names and finger numbers.
