- Students will learn the definition of a word family. They will learn how to use the word family "chunks" to read, write, and spell many words. Then students will be able to read a sentence using one or more of the words that were learned in class.
I am a former elementary school teacher with 29 years in public education. I taught 19 years as a first grade teacher and 10 years as a reading teacher. I have a Masters degree in Elementary Education, and I am a certified reading teacher. I love teaching young children. I feel it is important for kids to have fun while they are learning so I make my lessons fun and engaging!
This class will be most beneficial to students who have a basic knowledge of letters and sounds.
Your child will need something to write on. I have provided a "house" printable in each lesson, but it is not a requirement. He/she can write the words and the sentence on regular paper or a whiteboard.
