In this ongoing  class, your beginning reader will learn to read and write decodable words, and he/she will learn some beginning sight words, too!  
Here are the weekly word families that will be presented in class:

Week of November  3  - OB
Week of November  10 - UM
Week of November  17 - UP
Week of November  24 - ET
Week of December 1 - IG
Week of December 8 - IN
Week of December 15 - OP
Week of December 21 - OT

Class Format:   
*Class will begin with a welcome song.
*We will review all of the letters and letter sounds. 
*I will introduce the word family for the day, and students will practice blending the sounds that make up the family. For example, if the word family of the day is "-at", we will practice blending and writing "-at".  
*We will write several words that are in the "-at" family, such as cat, rat, mat.  Your child will write the words with me on their paper or whiteboard, or your child can "draw" the letters in the air.
*At the end of the class, students will review the word family and do some activities relating to the word family that they have learned during the lesson.
*We will end class with a good-bye song.  Be sure to have your child bring a "friend" (stuffed animal or toy) to share at the end of class.
