Experiencia de clase

This course is scheduled in flex time for your convenience. Flex class means there will be no live meetings. The work is self paced and all activities will take place in the classroom portal not in zoom. The course is great for busy families. The student may access the materials at anytime during the course. The teacher will answer emails within 24 hours.

Each week I will post class session videos and links to print outs for practice of cursive strokes. After watching the videos for class, the students will participate by doing activities for the week. Activities include submitting samples of cursive writing and discussion in the portal. The teacher will provide feedback to the students individually and as a whole class.
Time Frame for the Week:
Mondays - Teacher will post the information needed for the week.
Tuesdays-Wednesday - The teacher can answer any questions pertaining to the topic of the week. The students will need to complete any practice writing activities and answer any questions in the discussion.
Thursday - Students need to have all tasks completed and uploaded in the classroom.
Friday - The teacher will provide feedback to the class and individual students.
Saturday - Sunday - Teacher will be available to answer any questions that the students may have for the week or the next week.

In Class 1, Students will start with the basic "wave" or "approach" stroke. Students will watch a video and watch the teacher demonstrate how to write the basic "wave" stroke. Students will use their cursive paper to practice the stroke. The teacher will show what letters use this stroke and students will practice writing these letters. Students will be asked to print out practice paper (or use their own), practice the strokes, and then upload the samples of work to the classroom. Students will be asked to type into the discussion thread to answer the question, "Is cursive important? Why/why not?"

For Class 2- Students will learn how to do the "curved wave" stroke. The same procedure will be followed as was with the basic wave stroke. Teacher shows a demonstration video, demonstrates it herself, and students have a chance to practice their own strokes. Students will see demonstration videos on various cursive letters that use this stroke. Students will practice writing these letters in cursive. Students will be asked to print out practice paper (or use their own), practice the strokes, and then upload the samples of work to the classroom. Students will be asked to type into the discussion thread to answer the question, "How is cursive writing different from printing letters?"

Class 3- Students will learn how to use the "roller coaster" stroke. The teacher will show a demonstration video, demonstrate the strokes several times, and show which letters use the roller coaster stroke. Students will take turns practicing the letters and showing their strokes. Students will be asked to print out practice paper (or use their own), practice the strokes, and then upload the samples of work to the classroom. Students will be asked to type into the discussion thread to answer the question, "What are the strokes we've learned so far? What strokes are used to write the letters in your name?"

Class 4- The teacher will review the strokes learned in the previous 3 sessions. Students will learn the "hills and valleys" stroke. The teacher will demonstrate and the students will take turns practicing the strokes. The teacher will also show some examples of writing cursive for an entire word or name and students will practice those as well as writing their own name in cursive. Students will be asked to print out practice paper (or use their own), practice the strokes, and then upload the samples of work to the classroom. Students will be asked to type into the discussion thread to answer the question, "What letters do you need to practice the most? How will you continue to improve your cursive writing after class is over?"

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am offering this class because I am a certified English teacher and I have taught students cursive in class and online through Outschool. I know how to share the skills needed to help students get a great start on learning the skills they need to be able to write in cursive. I know that many schools aren't teaching cursive anymore and I don't want this art to be lost. I believe cursive is a beautiful form of writing and expression and is still needed and valuable.
