This class is for piano students who are beginners! This could be a student’s first time in a piano class, or if they’ve had some lessons and would like some review. Even if a student has had no music lessons before, they can succeed in this class! We will be working though My First Piano Adventures Christmas Book level A and students will be required to have their own copy of this book for class. 

The music we will be working on is considered “pre-reading”, meaning we will not be learning the notes on the staff in this course. Rather, we will be focusing on key letter names, noticing if right hand or left hand plays, noticing if notes step up or down or if they repeat, working on note and beat values, and learning about all of the music symbols included in the music! Students will learn to play by following the finger numbers as well as the notes. We will be working on the special Christmas music calendar together to reinforce what we are learning! 

We will be working on 8 different Christmas tunes in this class!

Here is a brief breakdown of what we will be going over in class:
In each class the teacher will go over finger numbers, key letter names, show which notes we will be using for the song, and teach the song and how to follow the music on the page as well. While learning each new song the teacher will teach rhythm, notes, music symbols, dynamics, and more! The instructor will also play how the piece sounds to help strengthen the skill of musical ear training. The instructor will be teaching the names of keys in each class, and learning how to navigate around the keyboard.  In each class we will complete a couple days of the Christmas music calendar together.

Lesson 1: introduction to class, overview of beats, finger numbers, and notes we will use for the first song. Working on how to play the first part of Up On the Housetop.
Lesson 2: Reviewing the first part of Up on the Housetop, finishing learning the song. Starting O Christmas Tree
Lesson 3: Working on O Christmas tree, starting Little Snowman
Lesson 4: Review/Catch up day! Finishing up any songs halfway learned, reviewing previously learned tunes.
Lesson 5: Learning I Love My Candy Cane!
Lesson 6: Learning Rudolph’s Little Brother
Lesson 7: Review/Catch up day! Finishing up any songs halfway learned, reviewing previously learned tunes.
Lesson 8: Learning “Gathering Firewood”
Lesson 9: Learning “Traditional Carol Tune”
Lesson 10: Learning Jingle Bells
Lesson 11: Review/Catch up day! Finishing up any songs halfway learned, reviewing previously learned tunes.
Lesson 12: Showcase day! Students will play their favorite song from the course with each other!
